Village Farms International Is Smoking

As cannabis sales continuing to increase year after year with a potential of the industry hitting $500 billion in the Cannabis Industry, all the stock in it and Village Farms International are smoking…figuratively and literally.

Village Farms International, Inc., together with its subsidiaries, produces, markets, and distributes greenhouse-grown tomatoes, bell peppers, and cucumbers in North America. But in 2017, the company partnered with Emerald Health Therapeutics, a Canada-based, medical-marijuana research company and formed a 50-50 joint venture called Pure Sunfarms with the goal of supplying stores with cannabis products for the recreational market.

Skechers’ Upgrade Equated To A Sell Opportunity

I guess Skechers efforts on new line of products, store renovation, inventory management, online presence, etc. has put them in a position for the upgrade yesterday.

In a note to clients, Susquehanna Research analyst Sam Poser upgraded the company to positive from neutral and raised his target price on the stock to $37 from $32, noting that his check-ins at various retail locations and also recent results from wholesalers point to stronger demand for the company’s products.“Proprietary checks and recent results from wholesale partners indicate Skechers’ business is gaining momentum,” Poser said, adding that “men’s and women’s fashion athletic styles and

Tiffany Isn’t Shining Bright At The Moment – Part II

One month ago, I wrote about how Tiffany missed analysts’ estimates of $1.05 billion in revenue for its third quarter, reported sales of $1.01 billion. Its same-store sales also disappointed investors and missed estimates by 2.3% and lowered its guidance for same-store sales growth.Last week, Tiffany stock price broke though the daily supply at $82. This level now becomes resistance. As price breaks the $82 level, it formed another daily supply at $87. The chart suggests there is further downside risk.

U.S. Stock Market: The Land of Confusion

Well if you are a technical trader then you are in no better shape than the fundamentalists out there as price action for the S&P 500 is anything but clear at the moment.
Failing or Holding?
That is the $100,000 question and right now it’s anyone’s guess.

Looking at the chart above you can see after price broke that strong resistance level it came back to test it and technically failed with a big body red candle taking it lower Friday.
It was followed by a day of indecision before pushing higher today, though that candle was indecisive as well with a large upper

Oil prices (WTI) hit $60 on last week and is now up 30% year-to-day. One week ago, OPEC canceled their planned meeting in April, effectively extending supply cuts that have been in place since January until at least June.  Prices have been further supported by U.S. sanctions against oil exports from Iran and Venezuela.

So just in a couple of trading days, we had German manufacturing activity growth the weakest in six and a half years.  Across the pond in the US, PMI fell to its lowest level in nearly two years.

Saying on the US side of things, Fed Powell left interest rates unchanged last week, signaling that the US economy isn’t as strong as people thinks.  And for the first time since 2007, the three month bill vs. the 10 year note inverted.

This caused the Dow Jones industrial average closed down 460.19 points, or about 1.8%, to 25,502 and the CBOE Volatility Index

The Quant Levels To Watch On The Russell 2000

U.S. stocks could be in for some more pain following Friday’s rout as trend-following quants unload their holdings. The selling may be particularly painful for U.S. small caps as commodity trading advisers, or CTAs, are set to “flip short” on the Russell 2000 Index by the end of the day, according to Charlie McElligott, a cross-asset strategist at Nomura Securities. As it stands, money managers that follow quantitative strategies are still 50 percent long entering Monday’s trading session, but that should vanish by the day’s end, his models show.

Party Like It’s 1964

The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA rose 181 points on Friday, making it the ninth straight weekly gain for the Dow and the first time since 1964 that the DOW rose in the first 8 weeks of a calendar year.

This recovery since the Christmas lows is primarily due to Fed Powell succumbing to the Markets demands and putting its interest-rate policy on hold.

The Bank Stocks Aren’t Fine

The US Fed held the target for the benchmark rate steady at 2.25% to 2.50%. Fed Powell indicated no rate hikes 2019.  With rates potentially at their peak for this cycle and future GDP projections declining slashed, this recipe could spell trouble for the bank stocks.

Typically, financial entities like banks, insurance companies, brokerage firm generally benefit from higher interest rates. Increases in interest rates, mean the economy is doing good. Banks make loans to borrowers at a higher rate than non-performing assets such as savings accounts and CDs and profit from the difference. However, in an environment in which the
