? Good News, Bad News For Bitmain
Hats off to the lucky ones, the crypto investors who bought <abbr title=”

Mining is the process of repeatedly aggregating transactions, constructing a block and trying difference nonces until a nonce is found that satisfies the proof of work condition. If a miner gets lucky and produces a valid block, they are granted a certain number of coins as a reward as well as all of the transaction fees in the block, and all miners start trying to create a new block containing the hash of the newly generated block as their parent.
“>mining equipment manufacturer Bitmain has published an official blog post outlining the company’s decision to name a new CEO and what it plans to do with its initial public offering (IPO) application with the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX), which has recently expired. While Bitmain says the IPO listing process made the company “more transparent and standardized,” applying a second time could raise more questions about Bitmain’s future.
In November 2018, ETHNews covered Bitmain’s chief executive restructuring when Nishant Sharma, the company’s international marketing manager, reported that co-founder and co-CEO Jihan Wu would reposition and continue on with the company as a director. More recently, in January, the South China Morning Post reported that two unnamed sources believed both Wu and cofounder and co-CEO Micree Zhan would be replaced with Haichao Wang, Bitmain’s director of product engineering.
? Top Cap and Delta Cap: New Metrics for Spotting Bitcoin Price Trend Reversals
Believe it or not, there are more ways to anticipate the future market value of bitcoin than through practicing technical analysis or by observing network activity developments.
While valuable in their own right, thanks to researchers Willy Woo and David Puell, several new experimental bitcoin valuation metrics were released in February that combine the two fields to create a more holistic view of bitcoin’s market.Sample sizes are small in the cryptocurrency markets, with the oldest, bitcoin, having existed just 10 years, but two of the newly released metrics termed “Top Cap” and Delta Cap” have shown to be effective at identifying the tops and bottoms of bitcoin’s wild market cycles thus far.
Delta Cap
Proposed by Puell, the metric that successfully caught both bear market bottoms in 2011 and 2015, and that is known as the Delta Cap, is calculated as follows:
Delta cap = Realized cap – Average cap
Average cap = “cumulative sum of daily market cap values / age of the market in days.”
Realized cap = “UTXOs are aggregated and assigned a price based on the BTCUSD market price at the time when said UTXOs last moved”

? Why Mark Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey Are Warming to Blockchain

“Left to their own devices, computer scientists would recreate the Soviet Union.”
That line belongs to Preston McAfee, an economist whose job history includes senior positions at tech giants such as Microsoft, Google and Yahoo. As he explained to an audience at the SXSW conference in Austin, Texas, recently, it refers to software engineers’ tendency to favor centralization as the most efficient design principle for any computing system. The point, he said, is that decentralized networks, such as those based on blockchain models, can often enable more positive overall social outcomes despite the relative inefficiency of their command-and-control architecture. It’s useful to contemplate this idea, and McAfee’s colorful metaphor, in relation to the current state of play on the Internet.
? TechCrunch Founder’s Crypto Fund Tops $100 Million, Completes First Acquisition
One of Arrington XRP Capital’s largest limited partners (LPs) has injected a fresh $30 million into the digital asset firm, according to its founder Michael Arrington.
“The reason is, like everyone, we didn’t do particularly great last year, but we did better than the market. And that was a win,” Arrington told CoinDesk. With the additional investment, Arrington says the fund has now surpassed its initial target of raising $100 million.
First announced at Consensus: Invest 2017, the TechCrunch founder has never disclosed his eponymous fund’s LPs (other than to indicate that Ripple is not one of them).
? Stellar Patched an Inflation Bug and Burned the Resulting 2.25 Billion XLM: Research
Cryptocurrency intelligence company Messari has claimed that Stellar (XLM) suffered an inflation bug in April 2017 that was exploited to create 2.25 billion XLM (worth about $10 million at the time), which were later burned. The news was revealed in a Messari report published on March 27.
Per the report, the illicitly created XLM — which was equivalent to nearly a quarter of the circulating supply — was moved o exchanges and likely sold during the first half of 2017. An equivalent quantity of XLM was purportedly burned to preserve the intended supply and avoid the dilution of the value of the tokens.
The research also notes that the involved addresses and related records are no longer accessible on Stellar Expert or other block explorers but can be found using the Horizon Application Programming Interface. Also, the company claims that seemingly no media reported on the bug, its exploitation and the consequent burn before Messari.
