? Liquid Cryptocurrency Exchange to Host Public Phase of Telegram ICO

Cryptocurrency exchange Liquid will reportedly be the first to host encrypted messaging app Telegram’s Gram tokens when they go on public sale, a press release confirmed on June 11.

Telegram, which has not provided an official statement on the move, became the focus of international attention last year when it held a private initial coin offering (ICO) for Gram, which raised $1.7 billion for its Telegram Open Network (TON) project.

A message from an unofficial TON channel on Telegram wrote that Liquid could be attempting to catch on to the hype surrounding the as-of-yet unreleased token, and that investors should wait for official information from Telegram.

? Major Korean Bank Signs MoU With Atomrigs Lab to Explore Crypto Asset Management

Major South Korean commercial lender KB Kookmin Bank has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with blockchain technology firm Atomrigs Lab to jointly explore digital asset management and protection solutions. The news was released at a press conference at the bank’s office in Seoul on June 11.

The MoU — signed yesterday, June 10, in Seoul — establishes that the two partners will focus on digital asset market growth and new crypto-related businesses, according to Korean news outlet Yonhap News.

Atomrigs Lab is a firm specializing in blockchain development for the financial sector, and has been developing blockchain-based digital asset protection technologies using next-generation cryptography.

? 100 Bitcoin Users Perform What Might Be Largest ‘CoinJoin’ Transaction Ever

The community behind the privacy-centric bitcoin app Wasabi Wallet recently brought together 100 people to collectively execute a “CoinJoin” transaction on bitcoin in what might be the biggest event of its kind.

Some context: bitcoin itself is far from private, as users can, via the blockchain, see where coins are being transferred to and from. One effort to afford greater privacy to transactions is CoinJoin, a long-standing technology first proposed in 2013 by long-time bitcoin idea man and cryptographer Greg Maxwell. The idea is that transactions can be made more private by jumbling a number of different transactions together and then redistributing them.

At 100 transactions, Wasabi Wallet’s effort might be the biggest, but it’s certainly an advancement for the privacy tech as a whole.

? Fraud-Fighting ‘Watchtowers’ to Arrive in Next Bitcoin Lightning Release

So-called lightning network “watchtowers” — a much-anticipated next step for securing the network — are coming soon.

Watchtowers have long been considered a missing piece of bitcoin’s lightning layer, as they’re crucial for squashing fraud on the experimental, off-chain network that could make bitcoin payments faster and more scalable. With version 0.7 of the LND software release coming at an undisclosed date in June, Lightning Labs is launching the most complete build of a network watchtower to date.

When someone uses lightning, it’s necessary for someone using it to remain online to make sure their “counterparty” isn’t trying to steal those funds. But this is obviously a UX nightmare; for example, customers don’t have to monitor their Wells Fargo accounts every day to ensure that they’re not being defrauded.

? Bitcoin People Directory Lists Crypto-Friendly Merchants

The number of businesses accepting cryptocurrencies for goods and services has been growing, particularly for P2P coins such as bitcoin cash. Finding places where you can spend your digital cash is easy thanks to platforms such as Bitcoin People.

Bitcoinpeople.online is a merchant directory listing companies that support payments in bitcoin cash (BCH) and several other major coins and tokens. It’s useful for both potential customers who want to find places to spend their digital currencies and for businesses that are willing to accept digital assets for their products.
If you are a crypto entrepreneur, you can sign up and list your businesses for free. To do so, you need to register with the platform. Creating an account requires you to choose a username and password and provide a valid email address. You can also promote your brand as a featured business on the Bitcoin People homepage and on other relevant pages for about $1 per month.

As you can see on the chart, the STEEM is doing a nice UP today, and continuing its progression of the last days, ignoring the correction that we experienced yesterday. However, look the chart that I drawed today for you : Be really carefull with that double top pattern. We need to break that line very soon or if it si not the case and that we start to drop now, it will be a very bearish signal…

? Weiss Crypto Ratings Downgrades EOS Due to Centralization Concerns

United States-based financial research firm Weiss Ratings announced that it has downgraded its rating of cryptocurrency EOS because of the blockchain’s “serious problems” with centralization. Weiss announced the report in a tweet published on June 7.

In the tweet, Weiss Ratings claims that the cryptocurrency in question has severe centralization issues and that “their event last week did anything to alleviate that,” evidently referring to an event hosted by EOS developer, Block.one on June 1. Weiss decided to lower EOS’ technology score, given the development.

The tweet also hinted that fellow top crypto ADA is next in line to prove itself as a decentralized proof-of-stake (PoS) blockchain system:

“It’s now up to #ADA to launch a truly decentralized #PoS #blockchain. No pressure.”

? G20 Finance Leaders Ask Global Regulators to Consider Multilateral Response to Crypto

G20 finance ministers and central bank governors have asked the Financial Stability Board (FSB) and global standard-setting organizations to monitor risks around crypto assets. The request was made in a joint communiqué published on the website of Japan’s Ministry of Finance on June 9, following the G20 meeting held in Fukuoka, Japan.

The leaders that cosigned the document state that they urge relevant institutions to give greater consideration to crypto assets and consider appropriate action:

“We ask the FSB and standard setting bodies to monitor risks and consider work on additional multilateral responses as needed.”

? MPC Explained: The Bold New Vision for Securing Crypto Money

Advances in cryptography are converging to help developers bring blockchain applications closer to the core decentralizing principles on which this technology is founded.

Inventions such as atomic swapszk-SNARKS and Lightning-based smart contracts are allowing developers to realize the dream of true peer-to-peer transactions in which neither party, nor an outside intermediary, can act maliciously. Witness the rising number of non-custodial and decentralized exchange (DEX) services for trading crypto assets.

This is exciting. But it also shines a light on another big problem that has curtailed the widespread adoption of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology: secure key management.

For too long, the most reliable means of protecting the private keys that afford the holder control over an underlying crypto asset have been too clunky, insufficiently versatile, or difficult to implement on scale. User experience has been sacrificed in return for security.

? I Started the Silk Road Wikipedia Page (Because Bitcoin) – Ryan Singer

? Crypto Debit Cards You Can Use Now Plus a Few to Expect Soon

Debit cards tied to cryptocurrency wallets provide an opportunity to spend your digital coins almost anywhere fiat money is accepted. It’s a working solution, at least until wider adoption comes around. That’s why they’ve become so popular in the crypto community. Challenges of different sorts have negatively affected some of the earlier offerings, but it’s good to see products that have survived and new ones that are gaining traction or are about to enter the market.

During the past year, crypto winter forced businesses to downsize and adjust to unfavorable market and regulatory conditions. Many are still trying to adapt and some are already seeking opportunities elsewhere. For example, the company that issued Shift, arguably the first bitcoin debit card in the U.S. which allowed holders to spend from their Coinbase wallet, is not offering it anymore. It’s now operating under a new brand name, Apto Payments. And in Europe, many card providers suffered a hard blow when Visa terminated Wavecrest’s membership – some have recovered, others are yet to return.

Here is the current chart :

STEEMUSD.jpg

Today we broke the resistance line at 0.39$ with a nice volume but unfortunalty, the reversal came with low volume but it was enough to remove all the gain of the day. So we are again lower than the resistance line at 0.39. We already dropped too much to do a pull back pattern so let’s see if the market will try to go back quickly break that resistance line. If it is not the case, I’m afraid we go test 0.34$ again.

? Over 100 Staff Now Reportedly Working On Facebook’s Crypto Project

More details are now emerging regarding high-level executives for social media giant Facebook’s crypto project, according to a report by CNBC on June 6.

According to the report, there are now 100 people known to be working on the crypto project via profiles on professional networking platform LinkedIn. Facebook is also reportedly not done hiring, with over 40 openings still available in the team’s business unit, as per its website listing.

The aim of Facebook’s new crypto project, according to advertising on its career descriptions, is to provide a public service centered on accessibility:

“Our ultimate goal is to help billions of people with access to things they don’t have now — that could be things like healthcare, equitable financial services, or new ways to save or share information.”

? Nearly $10 Million in XRP Stolen in GateHub Hack

Hackers have reportedly compromised nearly 100 XRP Ledger wallets on cryptocurrency wallet service GateHub. The incident was announced by GateHub in a preliminary statement on June 6.

In the statement, GateHub reveals that it was notified by some of its customers and community members that funds on their wallets had been stolen. The company estimates that hackers managed to compromise around 100 XRP Ledger wallets.
Although the company did not initially identify any nefarious activities on its platform, it began an investigation on the matter, wherein it discovered increased application programming interface (API) calls coming from a small number of IP addresses. This could purportedly be the way the culprit got access to encrypted secret keys.

Community member Thomas Silkjær —  one of those who warned GateHub about the breach — published a report on the hack, revealing that:

“On June 1 we were made aware of a theft of 201,000 XRP … and immediately started investigation. It turned out that the account robbed was managed through Gatehub.net, and that the offending account (r9do2Ar8k64NxgLD6oJoywaxQhUS57Ck8k) had stolen substantial amounts from several other XRP accounts, likely to be or have been managed through Gatehub.net.”

? EOS Startup Block. One Is Using Its Billions to Buy Back More Equity

Block.one, the company that built the EOS blockchain, is in the middle of another equity buyback in order to bring on more strategic investors, a source familiar with the matter told CoinDesk.

The company has previously conducted equity buybacks in order to resell those shares to new investors that it sees as helpful to its business, the source explained.

The source declined to provide further details about who would be joining Block.one’s list of backers.

? NEO Releases Detailed Financials Ahead of Cryptocurrency Relaunch

The technology behind the cryptocurrency NEO, formerly known as Antshares, will be completely reconfigured by this time next year.

In April, NEO co-founder Erik Zhang announced that an optimized version of the blockchain network will relaunch as NEO 3.0 in 2020. The underlying infrastructure will be so different that token holders will need to turn in their assets for newly issued tokens.

Zhang told CoinDesk this process will not require know-your-customer (KYC) information, as the Singapore-based NEO Foundation will simply destroy the old assets and airdrop new tokens to designated wallets.

? Kodak Launches a Blockchain-Enabled Document Management System

Kodak’s pivot to blockchain is coming into focus as the legacy camera brand announced its new blockchain-based document management system at a two-day conference in Rochester, New York. Unlike previous Kodak-blockchain announcements, Kodak Document Management Platform is not under license to a third-party and is an actual Kodak product.

The platform, launched under the name Kodak Services for Business, is intended for businesses and governments to store and manage sensitive documents. Kodak Document Management Platform relies on blockchain to provide efficiency and security, according to the company.

The company also claims that the blockchain platform will lead to 20-40% cost savings through automated workflows and decreased human management of content, information, and documents.

We are continuing to test the support line around 0.34$. Till now this line is holding us but I would prefer that we take some distance from it because we could finish to break it and go directly to the next support line, the 0.31$ level. Let’s see, I don’t think we will be able to break it if the BTC doesn’t drop so again we will wait the master BTC to know the next for STEEM.

? Binance to Reportedly Introduce Its Own Stablecoins ‘Within Two Months’

Leading cryptocurrency exchange Binance will reportedly issue its own stablecoins within two months, Bloomberg reported on June 5.

Binance’s Chief Financial Officer, Wei Zhou told Bloomberg that the exchange will start issuing its own stablecoins “in a matter of weeks to a month or two,” with the goal to make stablecoins available for more of the world’s currencies.

The exchange’s first stablecoin dubbed “Binance GBP” will reportedly be denominated in and 100% pegged to the British pound. Zhou also revealed that Binance will make money off of interest on fiat deposits, like tether (USDT) does.

Apart from Binance GBP, Binance is reportedly planning to introduce an array of other stablecoins backed by other currencies, with the exception of the U.S. dollar. Explaining the company’s decision, Zhou said that “from the users’ perspective, only certain portions of the world use the dollar. Other users use other currencies, and we feel it should be reflected in stablecoins as well.”

? Facebook Set to Reveal Own Cryptocurrency in June, Report Says

ocial media giant Facebook is said to reveal its own cryptocurrency later this month.

According to a report from The Information on Wednesday, Facebook is poised to unveil its cryptocurrency to the public later in June, which is aimed to allow users to process transactions via the social media channel, and will be offered to Facebook employees who want to be paid in the form of the cryptocurrency.

The report added Facebook is also planning to have physical portals for users to purchase the cryptocurrency, which, according to previous reports, is called GlobalCoin.

In addition, Facebook is reportedly inviting external parties to participate in the network that will empower the cryptocurrency to act as “nodes” for a fee that could be as much as $10 million each.

? $1 Billion Valuation May Elude Ethereum Co-Founder’s New Blockchain Polkadot

Blockchain project Polkadot’s bid for a $1.2 billion valuation has hit a snag.

Since January, the Web3 Foundation, the Switzerland-based nonprofit behind the project, has been trying to raise up to $60 million through a private token sale. According to people familiar with the situation, three Chinese funds have agreed to invest $15 million in the project’s DOT tokens.

However, these three investors agreed to pay prices that, on average, valued the project below $1 billion, the sources said – falling short of the unicorn threshold Polkadot was reportedly seeking. (The agreed-to prices may vary from investor to investor.)

While it’s unclear how many tokens the three Chinese funds bought, or how many investors besides them participated, one source said Polkadot has been able to sell only 70 percent of the intended 500,000 DOT.

? Bitcoin’s 2019 Price Run Driven By Real Transaction Growth, Analysis Shows

An experimental metric used to gauge the quantity and quality of activity on bitcoin’s network clocked a 28-week high last Saturday, signaling the cryptocurrency’s latest price rally may be more fundamentally driven than many expect.

The Transaction Amount to Active Addresses Ratio (TAAR), first proposed by CoinDesk Contributor and Pugilist Ventures Founder Chris Brookins, divides bitcoin’s 24-hour adjusted transaction volume (USD) by the number of its active addresses to identify how much each active address spends in transactions per day on average.

If TAAR is high, then it means each user (active address) is transacting in high notional values, in other words, the network “quantity” (how much is being spent i.e. transaction volume) is high per the “quality” (how many users are spending the funds i.e. active addresses).

? President of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro: ‘I Do Not Know What Bitcoin Is’

The president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, has stated that he does not know what bitcoin (BTC) is, and endorsed the suspension of a project that would create a crypto for indigenous people to use, Cointelegraph Brazil reported on June 4.

Bolsonaro supported the Minister of Women, Family and Human Rights, Damares Alves in the termination of a project worth 44.9 million Brazilian reals ($11.5 million) between the National Indian Foundation (FUNAI) and the Federal Fluminense University (UFF), which promoted the creation of a cryptocurrency for indigenous people to use. Bolsonaro delivered his comments during an interview with Ratinho’s SBT show on June 4.

After saying that the Minister acted properly in blocking the project that “wanted to teach the Indian to use bitcoin,” the president was asked by a show participant if he knew what bitcoin was. Bolsonaro replied:

“I do not know what bitcoin is.”

? Neo Announces New Consensus Mechanism For Its New Mainnet

Chinese-based blockchain platform Neo has implemented a new iteration of its consensus algorithm, the Byzantine Fault Tolerance mechanism (dBFT 2.0), on its mainnet, according to a press release on June 4.

The new algorithm purportedly provides immediate transaction finality. dBFT 2.0 includes a new procedure for reintegrating failed nodes back into the network, and also adds a “commit phase” of consensus, which alleviates forking issues by including a step that forces node assignment to new blocks.

The consensus mechanism dBFT reportedly differs from the ones for top cryptocurrency blockchains Bitcoin and Ethereum because of this commit phase. For Bitcoin, the consensus mechanism is a proof-of-work (PoW) protocol that allows BTC miners to compete on making the next block, which means that there are competing forks on the blockchain.

? Long-Term Support Level May Struggle to Revive Bitcoin Price Rally

Bitcoin is again attempting a recovery from the 30-day moving average, currently at $7,710. The key average has consistently reversed price pullbacks in the last four months.

This time, BTC is more likely to end up creating a bearish lower high (shallow bounce) or may find acceptance below the average in the next day or two, as both the daily and weekly technical indicators are calling a deeper price pullback.

A UTC close below the 30-day MA would open the doors to $7,000.

If the ongoing recovery from the MA ends with a UTC close above $8,103 (today’s high), BTC may rise to $8,500 in the next couple of days.

? The SEC Case Against Kik’s ICO Appears Strong, Experts Say

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has sued messenger app maker Kik for its $100 million ICO – which the agency contends was an unregistered securities sale – and the regulator appears to have built up a strong case in its initial court move.

In a complaint filed Tuesday, the SEC alleged that Kik violated federal securities law by not registering its kin token sale. In a response, Kik’s general counsel, Eileen Lyon, said that the SEC’s complaint makes a number of inaccurate assumptions which “stretch the Howey test well beyond its definition” and that the agency’s push will not withstand judicial scrutiny.

Nelson Rosario, a principal at Smolinksi Rosario Law, told CoinDesk that the SEC’s complaint against Kik was similar to others brought against other initial coin offerings, in particular with respect to the evidence that the regulator is putting forth.

? Polish Exchange Shuts Down and Disappears With Customers Funds

Polish cryptocurrency exchange Coinroom has reportedly shut down its operations and disappeared with customer funds, local business news outlet money.pl reported on May 31.

Money.pl received an email from one of its readers, who stated that Coinroom —  which was registered in 2016 — ceased operations overnight and disappeared with customers’ money in April. Some users say they had up to 60,000 zloty (around $15,790) in their accounts.

Before ceasing its operations, Coinroom reportedly sent emails to its customers, containing information about contract terminations. Coiroom customers had only one day to withdraw their money, which was in accordance with Coinroom regulations signed by users. However, customers reportedly claim that some of them got only part of the money, while most of them did not receive their funds back at all.

? Binance Launches Native Trust Wallet on Binance DEX

Binance, the world’s second largest crypto exchange by adjusted volume, has released its official Trust Wallet on its decentralized trading platform Binance DEX. The news was revealed in a press release shared with Cointelegraph on June 4.

As previously reported, Binance acquired Trust Wallet — an open source, decentralized wallet that initially offered native support for ethereum (ETH) and ETH-based tokens — in summer 2018. At the time, Binance had revealed its plans to list the wallet as the default wallet on its forthcoming decentralized exchange (DEX) — then still under development.

Since then, the exchange has also rolled out support for multiple cryptocurrencies on Trust Wallet — with plans to support tokens based on protocols using proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus algorithms in future.

? Maxwell, Wuille Co-Author Proposal for a Big Boost to Bitcoin’s Bandwidth

A newly-proposed relay protocol could reduce the “transaction bandwidth” used up by bitcoin nodes by up to 75%.

cointelCalled Erlay, the proposed protocol alters the way transactions are relayed so that they use significantly less bandwidth, an important resource for the nodes that make up the network. The authors include The University of British Columbia researcher Gleb Naumenko as well as two bitcoin development heavy-weights: Greg Maxwell and Pieter Wuille.

The way bitcoin works is that nodes across the world tie together to form a network. Under the hood, once a transaction is broadcast, it ripples through this vast network of hardware.

? EOS Holders Vote to Reduce the Annual Inflation From 5% to 1%

EOS holders voted to reduce the annual inflation rate from 5% to 1% as of June 1, according to data on the voting platform maintained by EOS Block Producer (BP) EOS Authority.

According to the poll’s description, out of the current 5% of annual EOS inflation, 4% is being accumulated in the eosio.saving account while 1% is distributed among BPs in exchange for network maintenance. About 3.6 million EOS are reportedly created and sent to this on-chain account every month, and this number increases due to compound inflation mechanisms.

The original purpose of accumulating funds on the aforementioned account was allegedly to have the community vote on how to spend it or even burn it. Still, the proposal claims:

“However, 8 months have past and there is still no defined use for this large quantity of EOS tokens that continues to flow into the eosio.saving account. This large quantity of accumulated tokens has now become excessive and if we continue to allow it to keep growing, it will eventually become an attack vector for the network.”

? Why Bitcoin’s ‘Culture War’ Matters

Let’s talk about bitcoin, toxicity and inclusiveness.

(Boy, my Twitter feed is going to have fun over the next few days.)

To start with, let me take a position: I stand with those people, especially women, who’ve lately been calling out maltreatment from members of the bitcoin community and citing rude and abusive behavior as proof of that community’s lack of inclusiveness. These are people who believe in cryptocurrency technology’s potential but feel discouraged to believe that they belong to the community’s dominant white-male subculture. If this technology is to fulfill its global potential, the community associated with it must confront this problem.

But the real point of this column is not to just defend these critics. It’s to debunk one of the more common positions adopted by those who take issue with their complaints, particularly on Twitter. In doing so, I hope to emphasize just how important the concepts of “community” and “culture” are to the healthy development of crypto technology and the ecosystem growing around it.

As usual the STEEM has some delay but is continuing to follow the BTC? So the resistance line at 0.39$ is now broken and we should go in direction of the resistance line around 0.43$. If the BTC is doing its pullback, we took some distance from our support line so we could do a similar pattern and make a pull back on the 0.39$. Let’s see, this scenario is not mandatory to test the 0.43$ level.

? Coinbase Now Supports Cryptocurrency Token EOS

Major United States-based cryptocurrency exchange and wallet service Coinbase has added support for EOS, according to a press release on May 30.

The new addition is reportedly available for trading and storage in most areas covered by Coinbase, with the exception of the United Kingdom and New York at press time.

The announcement also notes that there are no transaction fees associated with EOS; the cost is instead paid in computing resources, such as a tax on RAM, CPUs, or network bandwidth. Users that run the network also earn EOS by contributing to the computational power needed to run transactions.

? Project Libra: Everything We Know About Facebook’s Cryptocurrency

The world’s biggest social media company appears dead-set on launching its own cryptocurrency.

Facebook has yet to announce plans publicly but media reports on its crypto ambitions have emerged over the past six months, painting a partial picture of how the social network wants to capitalize on blockchain technology.

In short, a team led by former PayPal president David Marcus is building an asset-backed cryptocurrency, one designed to operate within the company’s existing messaging infrastructure (WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook Messenger).

The most recent news on the project comes from the BBC, with the British outlet reporting that the cryptocurrency – called “GlobalCoin” internally – will launch in “about a dozen countries by the first quarter of 2020.”

? What to Expect at the SEC’s Blockchain Forum on Friday

At a fraught moment for government-industry relations, U.S. regulators and cryptocurrency insiders are sitting down for a meeting.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will convene its first FinTech Forum Friday at the agency’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., discussing a range of issues related to digital assets and distributed ledger technology (DLT). The speaker roster includes a dozen legal, financial and technical experts, as well as several key SEC officials.

Yet while some see an opportunity to air the industry’s concerns and get a better understanding of the SEC’s perspective, the forum comes at a time when some major crypto firms are taking a more aggressive tack.

“If you’re unhappy with bitcoin culture, sorry, you’re the problem. Bitcoin is better off without you—you’re not cut out for the challenges ahead. You’re not good under pressure, you’re too sensitive, and you lack conviction.”

Most notably, crypto startup Circle said this month it had laid off 30 of its employees, blaming “an increasingly restrictive regulatory climate in the United States” as one factor.

? State Farm and USAA Test Blockchain Platform for Insurance Claims Process

United States insurance giant State Farm and military-affiliated bank United Services Automobile Association (USAA) are testing a blockchain-based subrogation solution with real claims data. State Farm announced the development in an official press release on May 30.

The two insurance titans are using blockchain technology to automate and streamline the subrogation process in insurance claims.

The platform purportedly allows them to automatically compile total payments, net the balance, and conduct a regularly scheduled payment between insurers. State Farm states that the blockchain solution is being tested with real claims data.

Today, we continued to test the resistance line at 0.43$ but we haven’t been able to stay upper and close a candle on that level. The correction is now starting and we already break 2 support line and we are now under 0.39$. Next support line is at 0.34$ so let’s hope this one will hold us.

? Major Bitcoin Accumulation Was Underway by Big Money During Crypto Winter

The number of wallets holding between 1,000 and 10,000 bitcoin (BTC) has seen a sharp increase since the crypto market bottomed this winter, indicating significant accumulation during the price dip. The analysis was published in a new report from weekly crypto outlet Diar on May 28.

Diar’s analysis begins by comparing bitcoin’s distribution landscape today with data from August 2018, when the top coin was last trading in a circa $8,000 price range. The analysis focuses on so-called “Firm Size” bitcoin wallet addresses — defined as those holding between 1,000 and 10,000 BTC — and notes that such addresses now own over 26% of circulating supply, or $36 billion worth of BTC.

? JPMorgan Adds Privacy Features to Ethereum-Based Quorum Blockchain

JPMorgan Chase’s blockchain team has developed a privacy feature for ethereum-based blockchains, obscuring not only how much money is being sent but who is sending it.

Revealed exclusively to CoinDesk, JPMorgan has built an extension to the Zether protocol, a fully decentralized, cryptographic protocol for confidential payments, compatible with ethereum and other smart contract platforms and designed to add a further layer of anonymity to transactions. The New York-based financial institution will open-source the extension Tuesday, and is likely to use it with Quorum, the bank’s homegrown, private version of ethereum.

Zether, which was built by a group of academics and financial technology researchers including Dan Boneh from Stanford University, uses zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs), a branch of mathematics which allows one party to prove knowledge of some secret value or information without conveying any detail about that secret.

? Report: Circulation of Facebook’s Crypto Could Face Demographic Challenges

Facebook’s payment-focused cryptocurrency Globalcoin will face demographic challenges, according to recent research by cryptocurrency analysis firm Diar published on May 28.

Facebook’s native cryptocurrency — which will purportedly seek to disrupt or bypass banking networks in order to remove financial barriers and lessen consumer costs — will reportedly launch in 2020.

In its recent report, Diar suggests that the coin will face demographic challenges as the social media giant’s user base is aging.

? Bitcoin’s ‘Toxic’ Twitter ‘Culture War’ Explained

“What the heck! It’s a food fight on here. [Bitcoin developer] Matt Corallo is mad at Blockstream. Ragnar and Giacomo Zucco clubbing people left and right. Wat is going on!?”

This text from a bitcoin enthusiast friend aptly described the confusion on social media platform Twitter in recent days, when leading members of the bitcoin developer and startup ecosystem have been fighting over bitcoin’s “culture” and whether it needs to be changed or improved.

The root of the debate: Does bitcoin have a culture problem? Is there too much “toxicity”? And yet, as Twitter is a free-for-all, there were all sorts of sub-parts to the debate, centering on other questions: Is bitcoin inclusive enough? Why is Twitter so harsh? And what, exactly is bitcoin culture?

**“Bitcoin industry culture is therefore *necessarily* one of extreme skepticism, cynicism, rigorous review, and forthright language,” Woodfine tweeted, adding:**

“If you’re unhappy with bitcoin culture, sorry, you’re the problem. Bitcoin is better off without you—you’re not cut out for the challenges ahead. You’re not good under pressure, you’re too sensitive, and you lack conviction.”

? G20 Countries Start Implementing Unified Crypto Standards

As the G20 summit approaches, member countries have been discussing how to implement the standards set by intergovernmental organizations such as the Financial Action Task Force. While there may be some challenges in complying with the standards, the European Central Bank says the risks crypto assets pose to the euro area’s financial stability are manageable.

The FATF held its annual Private Sector Consultative Forum in Austria earlier this month with its members and over 300 representatives from the private sector participating. Members of the FATF are 36 countries and two international organizations including the European Commission. The FATF explained:

“The discussions focused on the mapping of virtual asset services and business models … and on the implementation of specific FATF recommendations.”

Since the break of the resistance line at 0.39$, the resistance around 0.43$ is blocking us. We can see clearly that it is the blocking zone at this moment but any UP move on the BTC should help us to break also that one. So let’s be patient because as I was saying to one of my readers, we are not anymore in the top 30 so sometimes, we have to wait that the moves on the BTC impact the TOP30 to have our turn with little delay.

? China’s Latest Crypto Rankings: EOS Retains Top Spot, Bitcoin in 12th Place

China updated its cryptocurrency rankings on May 23 — with eos retaining the top spot and bitcoin moving up three places.
The government-sponsored index assessed each blockchain on three criteria: technology, application and innovation.

Joining EOS in the top five was tron, ether, steem and ontology.

Despite its dominance in the crypto industry overall, Bitcoin was in 12th place. While it scored well for creativity, it placed behind EOS in the score for basic technology.

? Golden Crossover: XRP Heads for Bullish Chart Pattern as Price Climbs 27%

XRP is teasing a long-term bullish reversal, with a surge in price and a bullish chart pattern likely to occur next week.
The world’s third largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization is currently trading at $0.413 on Bitfinex, representing a 27 percent gain on the opening price of $0.3249 seen May 1.

If prices stay above the current level till May 31, the resulting monthly gain would be the biggest since September 2018. Back then, the cryptocurrency had rallied 73 percent from $0.3350 to $0.5820.

The rally seen this month appears modest in front of the stellar gains registered in September 2018. The cryptocurrency, however, may produce much bigger gains in the following months as a widely tracked long-term technical indicator is about to turn bullish.

? 0x Teams With StarkWare to Bring Speed to Decentralized Exchanges

A cryptographic solution called zero-knowledge proofs (ZKP) could help notoriously slow decentralized exchanges (DEXs) reach speeds comparable to more traditional platforms.

San Francisco-based DEX startup 0x is partnering with the Israeli software-as-service company StarkWare to test a ZKP solution called StarkDEX, which can process roughly 500 transactions per second.

StarkWare CEO Uri Kolodny told CoinDesk the goal is clear: “Non-custodial trading at scale.”

Speaking to how ZKPs could be implemented in the 0x DEX ecosystem, 0x marketing lead Matt Taylor told CoinDesk:
“Our goal is that by the end of this year we’ll have this in production, on mainnet, so that people can actually use this technology. … We intend to have this be a core part of the 0x DEX stack.”

? The Cat-and-Mouse Game of Crypto Regulation Enters a New Phase

In the relentless cat-and-mouse game between regulators and cryptocurrency developers, the cats are about to add some serious firepower – this time in the form of a global alliance.

But if you think the intergovernmental Financial Action Task Force’s forthcoming know-your-customer (KYC) compliance standards spell the end for the mice, think again. If anything, the FATF’s move, expected to be released next month, will drive developers to accelerate work on non-custodial exchanges and other tools that will make it easier for end-users to transact directly outside of regulated intermediaries.

As CoinDesk managing editor Marc Hochstein explained last week , the new rules are likely to require exchanges and other custodial entities that take custody of their customers’ cryptocurrency to obtain identifying information about both parties before allowing a transaction over their platforms.

? Computer Researcher Finds Wallet Vulnerability That Gave Same Key to Multiple Users

UOnline cryptocurrency paper wallet creator WalletGenerator.net previously ran on code that caused private key/public key pairs to be issued to multiple users. The vulnerability was described in an official blog post by security research Harry Denley of MyCrypto on May 24.

According to the post, the bad code was in effect by August 2018, and was only recently patched out as of May 23. The live code on the website is reportedly supposed to be open source and audited on GitHub, but there were differences detected between the two. After researching the live code, Denley concluded that the keys were deterministically generated on the live version of the website, not randomly.

It is done now, the resistance line at 0.39$ is now broken. As you can see on the chart, we are now blocked by the resistance line at 0.43$ but I think that this resistance could be broken much more easier than 0.39$ which was a big resistance line since weeks now. We are having a little consolidation now but we could try to break that resistance line at 0.43$ very soon.

? Bitcoin Hits New 2019 High Above $8,900

Bitcoin’s price has set a new record for 2019, reaching as high as $8,905 before retracing slightly.

At 19:00 UTC on May 26, the world’s largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization broke from an ascending triangle pattern on the daily chart, after being held beneath $8,250 for an extended period of time.

The move to fresh 2019 highs comes after the bitcoin price dropped to as low as $6,600 on May 17 before a large amount of buying pressure pushed prices back above $7,300 within the same day.

Since then the bitcoin price has again jumped by 22 percent, rising above $8,500 around 19:45 UTC on Sunday night and then reaching over $8,700 within half an hour. It’s currently changing hands at $8,890 per CoinDesk’s price data.

? BCH May Have Sustained $1.3 Million+ Double Spend: BitMex Research

Following its hard fork on May 15, bitcoin cash (BCH) appears to have experienced a two-block chain reorganization resulting in a 3,392 BCH (about $1.35 million at press time) double spend. The claim was made in a report released by the research arm of cryptocurrency derivatives exchange BitMex on May 24.

Per the report, the recent BCH hard fork experienced three interrelated issues. Firstly, an apparent bug evidently exploited by an attacker right after the hard fork. The attacker was able to “broadcast transactions which met the mempool validity conditions but failed the consensus checks.” Miners attempting to produce blocks with said transactions were not able to, instead producing empty blocks.

? Beacon Chain Contracts: A New Way to Deploy Dapps on Ethereum 2.0

The core infrastructure behind ethereum 2.0 might be in for a major redesign.

Dubbed the beacon chain, a new proposal by ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin suggests radically modifying the blockchain’s role in a new iteration of the ethereum network based on proof-of-stake consensus.

“The idea here is that basically on the beacon chain, you’re going to be able to deploy these little worlds that summarize how a blockchain works, how a state transition works, [and] how a smart contract works,” Raul Jordan, co-lead at non-profit Prysmatic Labs, told CoinDesk.

? What Will It Take to Regulate Crypto Exchanges?

Shortly after Bitcoin SV was delisted from Binance, CoinDesk advisor Michael Casey published an insightful op-ed discussing whether the delisting amounted to censorship (it doesn’t), whether exchanges should be held to high standards of neutrality (they should) and whether regulation is necessary to achieve this result (it is).

The idea is that because major exchanges play such a crucial role in the industry (Casey claims that “[t]hey are the cryptocurrency industry) they should not be allowed to arbitrarily discriminate between crypto assets — rather they should be regulated to operate as neutral platforms.

But ask any regulation expert and they will tell you that, absent Goldilocks conditions (hold that thought), neutrality is neither the natural state of markets, nor the natural instinct of regulators.

? Trading App Robinhood Set to Raise at Least $200 Million: Report

United States-based stock and crypto trading app Robinhood is set to raise at least $200 million in a new funding round, Bloomberg reported on May 24.

Per the report, an unspecified source familiar with the matter told the outlet about the company’s plans to raise further funding. Moreover, Bloomberg reports that the round would increase the firm’s value to between $7 billion and $8 billion, but that the details could change.

Other people familiar with the matter also told Bloomberg that the new funds come from existing investors, all of whom asked not to be identified and to keep the details private. While the funding talks are reportedly ongoing, a further funding round could increase the company’s worth to $10 billion, but the numbers are subject to change until the deal is closed.

The Break Out on the BTC didn’t help us to break the resistance line at 0.39$ till now. However, STEEM is not fully synchronized with the BTC and it could happen with a little delay. Let’s check the coming hours, if the BTC doesn’t correct too powerfully, I think we could break that resistance line on the STEEM also.
