Where Are We in the US Market Cycle?

The US Market endured one of the worst holiday seasons of all time this past Q4. Since then we have rallied HEAVILY off the lows and in fact, “one of the best starts in stock market history by the Russell 2000” has happened.
Well you remember what happened in 2016, with the worst start to the year? It may be about to turn into the exact opposite.

Above you will see where I believe we are in the cycle. After rising so STEEPLY, and possibly topping, you get the initial down move. Then you get “THE BOUNCE”. We are coming up on

Russell 2000…Look For It To Start Turning Down

They say the Russell 2000 leads the way down and leads the way up.

The Russell 2000 lead the way down last quarter dropping almost 30% from its Aug 31 high vs the S&P 500 dropping almost 15% over the same period.

What a difference a new quarter and year make. The Russell 2000 has led the broader market, rising nearly 8% vs the S&P 500’s nearly 5% rise.  However, the Russell 2000 leading the broader markets might be short lived.

Usually towards the end of the business cycle, rising interest rates hurt smaller companies the most because they have a higher debt

Has GE Bottomed??? – Part 2

Three weeks ago, I wrote about GE because I was starting to see articles questioning whether GE had bottomed.

But before considering going long, the conviction for me would be if price can pull back to the daily demand at $6.75, then take out the $8 level, the bottom in GE would be more convincing at that point.

Has GE Bottomed???

GE not only came back to retest the daily demand at $6.75, but closed above the $8 level.

Now the same analyst who upgraded the stock, when it was in the $6 range citing a more citing a more “balanced risk-reward” profile and

SPX: Gap and Go So Took My Profits

As the S&P 500 pushes further into the resistance zone I decided not to be greedy and booked the rest of my day (turned into overnight) trade.
Bad News is Good so Good News is Great
The market was strong yesterday and the day before despite poor earnings announcement from companies such as Citi.  Thus, when Bank of America and Goldman Sachs were upbeat I guess that means we are definitely going to go a bit higher?
Well, atleast open higher and that is what happened followed by a push higher.  Or as I call it a gap and go.  Being we have

What happens after the bounce is what matters!

Well folks, we are now here. On Christmas Eve I said we are bouncing, followed by what happens after the bounce is what matters going forward. This V shape bounce (somewhat surprising how quick) has now ran into some HUGE sellers at 2610 and 2680.

If you go back and read my previous posts, these two levels have been mentioned over, and over, and over again, and again, and again. By drawing the resistance line you can literally see the wall that has been created from past prices. There is a 90% chance this causes trouble, the other 10% is a

Intraday Analysis: SPX Pressing The Upside Range

Over the last several days the S&P 500 has been a bit range bound.  Looking at a shorter time frame, such as the hourly chart we can see this trading action and that the index at this moment is trying to breakout to the upside.
Market Action
The opening bell was 30 minutes ago and despite disappointing earnings from yet another bank, JP Morgan this time, the SPX is pressing higher.

As you can see in the hourly chart above, price action has been stuck in a range the past five trading sessions and the index is now pressing the upside of that

Unusual Options Activity In PG&E Corporation

PG&E faces at least $30 billion in potential liability costs stemming from wildfires in 2017 and 2018, many allegedly started by the company’s equipment, that have led state officials to doubt the safety of the company’s electric distribution system.

Investigators have already determined PG&E’s equipment liable in at least 17 major wildfires in 2017. State investigators are still working to determine if the company’s equipment was partly responsible for November’s Camp Fire, which killed at least 86 people and destroyed about 14,000 homes, making it the state’s deadliest fire.

PG&E Corp. stock cratered Monday after the company said it will file for

SPX Bulls Showing Resilience

After quite the bounce last night and some negative news one could think the bears would come roaring down and sell off the market for at least a day, but the bulls seem to remain strong recently.
Bank Miss, China Down
This morning we got the first of what will be many banks reporting their fourth quarter results.  Citi kicked it off with a miss on revenue, which seems to be the expected tone for the banks this earning season from the pundits.
Additionally, data out of China sparked worries over a global slowdown as their import/export numbers were lower than expected.

Bitcoin Technical Analysis: PRICES SPIKE, BUT DON’T GET COMFORTABLE YET

Bitcoin’s price spiked from a low of $3,480 to $3,700. It’s currently trading around $3,670 on Coinbase. We know $3,600 was acting as a strong support before prices dropped 2 days ago. Often when a support is broken, it starts acting as resistance. In this case, when price spiked, $3,600 did not act as resistance. This gives bulls some hope for a larger rally. Let’s now see if $3,600 starts acting as support again.

This latest rise in price also came with a drop in long positions. In other words, traders to profit. This is a healthy sign.

Unfortunately, overall daily volume
