Why I’m Trying a Short Trade on SPX

Generally I like to see clear entry signals, but sometimes I try to anticipate a move if it is offering me a low risk proposition with a solid reward.
Taking a Shot on a Spinning Top
There are many names for candlesticks and candlestick patterns.  Spinning top is one of them and it is what I am seeing on the daily chart of the SPX.

After seeing the SPX gap higher three consecutive days and then create a spinning top yesterday I thought why not get short at the close of trading and put in a stop loss at the day’s high.
Basically, for

Facebook Needs To Do Some Serious Convincing

Facebook had a tough 2018.  There was the Cambridge Analytica scandal where Facebook exposed data on up to 87 million Facebook users to a researcher who worked at Cambridge Analytica, which worked for the Trump campaign.  Then monthly active users in the U.S., Canada and Europe declined.  The most recent public relationship nightmare was news that Facebook shared more user data with third-party companies, like Microsoft, Netflix, Spotify and Amazon.

However, a picture is worth a thousand words, Facebook’s share price fell nearly 30% in 2018.

An article released by CNBC reported that things aren’t peaches and cream inside Facebook either.

Unusual Options Activity In Johnson & Johnson

Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) has taken a hit in recent weeks, when allegations surfaced that the talc in its baby powder contained asbestos, which could cause cancer and that Management had known about it for many years.  The selloff resulted in JNJ stock price going from $147 to a low of $122, one of the worst selloffs in JNJ’s history.

I guess the selloff is understandable because of all the pending lawsuits worth billions of dollars that have been filed since the allegation.

The Markets are very emotional, with a sell now, ask later mentality.  To show Wall Street that JNJ

EOS Technical Analysis: Is EOS Preparing to Move?

EOS has been consolidating for over a week now. It’s being squeezed within a wedge and looks like it may make a larger move in the next day or 2.

The 4 hour RSI is also being squeezed, suggesting a larger move to come.

Roku Rocking Again

Although Roku reported mixed guidance in last month’s third-quarter earnings report, Roku remains one of the fastest growing leaders in video streaming technology.  Revenue rose 39% in its latest quarter, fueled entirely by a 74% surge in platform revenue thanks to their Roku 24 million active users.  About 10% of U.S. TV viewers aged 18 to 34 are now on Roku and 10 million of its users do not have a linear TV bundles.

The platform works. There are now 23.8 million users relying on Roku — up 43% over the past year — but that is just one of the

Unusual Options Activity In Nvidia

Micron Technology, Inc. manufactures and sells memory and storage solutions worldwide and climbed nearly 4% today after an analyst from BMO Capital Markets reversed his bearish stance and upgraded the semiconductor company to outperform from market perform stating, “while fundamentals will likely get worse before they get better, we believe the shares have bottomed, we are also raising our target price from $50 from $32.  But this post isn’t about Micro Technology, it’s about Nvidia.

Nvidia needs no introduction, but just to remind you, not only is Nvidia the leader in gaming, but also the leader in supplying chips needed for

It’s Pretty Gross Out There Folks $SPY $QQQ $AAPL $FB

My goodness do US equities look like absolute dogpoop   . I just scrolled through about 100 charts from the S&P500 and seriously found 1 stock in an uptrend and 2-3 that looked like it found actual buyers and not just short covering bounces.
It is the worst I have seen since Jan of 2016 during that bear market (and this is worse). The momentum names have been hammered down and the largest ones can’t even bounce such as AAPL, FB, etc.

These names have been killed and some cases down over 40% and they can’t even bounce?
In markets like this TIMEFRAME is

Bitcoin Technical Analysis: TESTING KEY RESISTANCE…AGAIN

Bitcoin broke up and out of the wedge it was consolidating in. It found resistance right inside the golden pocket (between the 0.618 and 0.65 fib) I’ve discussed in the past. While we’re seeing a small increase in volume, overall daily volume remains fairly weak.

Looking at the daily chart, price is bumping up against the upper Bollinger band. This, along with the golden pocket, is providing a strong area of resistance.
Bitcoin is now above the 50 Day MA on the daily chart. Let’s see if today’s candle can close above the 50 Day MA.

Not So Fast Ari Wald & Byron Wien

The beginning of the a new year is a time for all (really anybody) Wall Street pundits to make their year end predictions. I have come across many articles over the last several days predicting where the S&P 500 will be and where oil will be and where gold will be and where interest rates will be by year end. Two predictions in particular that I came across were the following:

“We expect a bear market rally to develop over the coming weeks, and we expect a new bull market to develop over the coming months to quarters,” said Ari Wald,
