Kroger Is Not A Buy

Kroger Co.’s stock has been beaten down this year, but some investment pros are bullish on its prospects for a rebound.

“While I think the battle for market share in the grocery space is far from over, I believe the risks are worth the potential rewards when I look at Kroger’s dividend metrics combined with its low valuation,” Nicholas Ward, of private investing community the Dividend Growth Club, recently wrote on investment website Seeking Alpha,

Ward doesn’t own Kroger stock, at least not as of the Monday writing of his post on Seeking Alpha.

While Ward believes the risks are worth the potential rewards, he doesn’t own the stock…I wonder why.

Maybe because Kroger must compete against Amazon in the digital world.

Maybe because Amazon is planning on opening dozens of grocery stores in several US cities.

Maybe because a couple of months ago, a Robert Beyer, Kroger Co. director has completed the largest outright stock sale by a company insider in six years.

Maybe because price broke out of the wedge to the downside. Kroger is not a buy, the chart suggest, price is heading to the monthly demand at $16.50

Bitcoin Bears Land A Punch…Bulls Try to Shake It Off

Yesterday we discussed major resistance at $12,950. Bitcoin needed to decisively penetrate this zone in order to continue its bullish momentum. Bears were having none of it as price was rejected, falling as low as $11,550 before finding support.

The daily chart shows the bulls are putting up a fight, defending the 8 day EMA.

Nio…Isn’t A Buy Yet

Shares of Nio Inc. soared in active trading Tuesday as the China-based electric car maker sped toward its biggest six-day rally since going public.

The stock NIO, +5.73%  shot up 6.2% in afternoon trading toward a sixth-straight gain, and the highest close since May 28. Volume swelled to over 76.8 million shares, enough to make the stock the most actively traded on major U.S. exchanges, and nearly double the full-day average of 38.8 million shares.

The stock has now rocketed 45.5% during its win streak, which would be the biggest six-day gain since Nio went public on Sept. 12, 2018.

Source

Nio is the newest Tesla competition and manufactures and markets electric vehicles in China.  Nio already has a vehicle in production and has delivered such models as the EP9, EVE, and ES8 to the market.

However, due to uncertainty around China’s economy, the status of a government subsidy for buyers of electric vehicles and delays in building their own factory, the stock price has declined in recent months. Most recently, in May 2019, China posted the worst ever sales decline and it marked the 11th-consecutive monthly decline in car sales…thanks to the US-China trade war.

Thus, Nio isn’t a buy yet fundamentally and from  a technical standpoint, the chart suggests the buyers must take out the sellers at the weekly supply at before considering Nio a buy.

Currency Analysis Report 7/9/19 – How Much Lower Will The British Pound Go???

The pound slumped to a two-year low as signs of economic downturn mounted in a market increasingly betting that policy makers will have to cut borrowing costs.

The currency reached its weakest level since April 2017 as disappointing retail sales and suggestions that the U.K. economy could be set for its worst quarter since 2012 sapped sentiment. The bleak economic outlook is adding to risk factors for sterling, with money markets pricing in a rate cut by the Bank of England next year.

The pound has fallen about 2% since Prime Minister Theresa May indicated that she would be stepping down

So are there any significant buyers below current price, lets go to the charts to find out?

Based on the monthly chart, the all-time lows sitting at 1.20000.

Based on the weekly chart, the trend is down.

Based on the daily chart, the chart suggests price is heading down to the daily demand at 1.2200.

Can Bitcoin Bulls Keep Running? Answering Your Questions

As discussed in my last video, bitcoin did slightly correct down to about $12,100 before finding support. It’s now trading around $12,500. Daily volume is climbing.

Looking at the daily chart, we can see price approaching a critical zone around $12,950. We’re seeing clear visual resistance as well as the top daily Bollinger bands converging at that area.

Metal Analysis Report 7/9/19 – Can Gold Hit $2000 By Year End???

Gold prices can continue to climb even after they hit a multi-year high last week, a global investment strategist said Monday.

In fact, prices are set to “reach $2,000 by the end of the year,” predicted David Roche, president and global strategist at London-based Independent Strategy.

Gold prices have been on an upward trend amid recent expectations of a Federal Reserve interest rate cut and heightened geopolitical concerns — conditions that might weigh on the stock market, according to Roche.

“I actually believe financial markets are now poised to crumble like a sand pile,” he told CNBC’s “Squawk Box.”

Source

Despite gold price breaking a major multi-year major resistance level at $1400, $2000 by the end of the year is a bit aggressive.

And with the likelihood of the Powell lowering rates following the strong jobs report last Friday, declines in the US dollar should stabilize, which will put a ceiling on gold prices at least short term.  In additional, in order for David to be right, price would have to breach the monthly supply zones at $1600 and I don’t see that in the cards for gold prices this year.  Nevertheless, if you don’t have gold in your portfolio, you should consider adding some to your portfolio.

Unusual Options Activity In Apple

Shares of Apple (AAPL – Get Report) started off lower on Monday on the back of a negative analyst report. In midday trading, shares are still down more than 2%, just under $200 per share.

Analyst Jun Zhang of Rosenblatt Securities cut his rating on Apple to sell from hold, while maintaining his $150 price target. Based on Friday’s close, that would imply about 26% downside for the iPhone maker.

Zhang contends that Apple will undergo a “fundamental deterioration over the next 6 to 12 months.” He further adds that iPhone and iPad growth will be disappointing in the second half of 2019, while Apple’s other products won’t be meaningful enough to make up the shortfall.

Source

We have been hearing this rhetoric for many months, ever since Apple said Apple announced on November 1st that it would no longer be reporting iPhone sales numbers…meaning iPhone units are no longer growing and will start to decline.

Nevertheless, this regurgitated newsflash was enough to send Apple stock down 2% for the day and cause the Smart Money to rush into some short term put options.  Today the Smart Money bought over 35k of put options with a strike price at $185 that expire on August 2nd

This means the Smart Money only make profits if the Apple’s stock price declines another 7%.  Will the Smart Money be right, stay tuned?
